Race For The Cure Recap

Happy Monday! I can still say that cuz there are still a few hours left. :p

Over the weekend, I ran in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. My friend, Erica, was planning to run in honor of her aunt who is fighting breast cancer for the 3rd time. When she asked if I wanted to run the 5k with her my answer was, “of course!” Run with a friend, for a good cause, in PINK?? Oh, I’m totally there!

Last week I realized that I hadn’t run since my half marathon in June, so I figured I should probably log a few miles before the race on Sunday. I headed out on Tuesday and Thursday to tackle the hills in my neighborhood and it was rough! I get plenty of cardio teaching Cardio30 twice a week, but cycling is WAY different than running. Phew! Fortunately, my dad gave me a few Pocket Fuel energy shots.


I gave the Chocolate Espresso a try on my first run of the week.

It was really tasty! Definitely needed to wash it down with some water, but I loved the flavor (I love peanut butter and I love chocolate, so it was a match made in heaven). I still died on my run, but I had more energy than I would have had I run fuel-less.

I took the Chia Goji and Honey flavor for the race on Sunday, but I didn’t end up using any fuel for the run. I had breakfast and a coffee before the run, so I didn’t really feel like I needed any. The thing I love about races is the energy is so contagious and it’s fun to feed off of.

Erica and I drove up with our sweet hubbies and arrived with about 5 minutes ’til start time. We jumped right into the starting crowd as they gave the signal to start.

We started off at a pretty steady pace and the whole run went really smooth…. Aside from when I almost ate pavement around mile 2. The run went through downtown Portland, so we passed the time looking at all the tall buildings and pointing out places we’d like to come back and visit. Erica pointed out a really cool old hotel, so I looked up to see the top and my sunglasses fell off. When I ducked back to grab them I tripped and almost face planted. There was a very concerned group of cheerleaders on the sidelines gasping as I hurtled towards the very hard earth. Fortunately, years of Centergy has honed my balance and I caught myself before blood was shed. I hopped up and waved my sunglasses at the concerned cheerleaders and we were on our way.

We crossed the finish line in 37:22, then made our way to the race expo to gather some freebies from sponsor tables (you know that’s why I run races). :p

It was a beautiful day for a run and a great way to start my Sunday. I tend to go in waves with running. I run for weeks, then I get burnt out and don’t run for months… Which really sucks cuz then all the stamina I built up dies and I have to rebuild it. Anywho, I think I caught the bug again and I’m looking forward to the Color Vibe 5k in a few weeks and the Poplar Run at the end of October! Still trying to decide if I’ll do the 10k or the 15k for the Poplar Run but, let’s be real, I’ll prob spring for the 15k. Go big or go home, am I right??

Recap Of The Week

I know, I know, I’ve been MIA this week. Mostly because it flew by without me noticing! I don’t know why, but the week has been busy and Sunday snuck up before I was prepared (or maybe just in time). It’s mostly work that’s been really busy. We’ve been making some changes and those always take adjusting. We also had an event on Friday that we spent the week preparing for. Anywho, it’s Sunday evening and I’m ready (almost) to start another week! Before I do, though, I’ll take you back through last week in pictures…

– My new Jamberry nail stickers came in the mail! Of course, I had to have a girls hang out night with Erica to do our nails. We went to yoga, then back to her apartment for dinner, wine and manicures. I’m gonna have WAY too much fun trying out all my new stickers!


– The event! Our club put on a muddy/messy obstacle course Friday night. We’ve spent the last few weeks dreaming up challenging and ridiculous obstacles and Friday night we had around 100 people participate in our epic course! My dad, bros and Brandon being just part of the crazy crew to take on this challenge.

I only got pics of the burpee station because that was the one I was in charge of, but we also had a foam pit, tire run, bear crawl, mud pits and so much more! It was tough – the boys are still complaining that they’re sore. We ended with the world’s largest water balloon fight! Seriously, I don’t think they get any bigger.

It was a ton of fun seeing everyone enjoy an event we put so much thought and work into!

– We had a party for my cousin at my grandma’s house and I found this beauty.

I think I “need” one for my kitchen too. :p

– I got my new releases for the upcoming group exercise launch.

It’s always fun to get new music and routines for class. I can’t wait to learn them!

– Saturday, a friend from Idaho was in the state for a conference. She had just a few hours between the end of her conference and when her flight left to go home. After work, I drove up to Portland to see her for a quick sec. We had about an hour to get a smoothie and catch up. A group of 4 of us have been friends since high school, so Sarah and I talked a lot about how amazing it is that we’ve kept in close contact for the last 8 years. I live in Oregon, Sarah is in Idaho, another moved to Canada and the last one is in Asia. We’ve kept an email chain going since high school ended and it’s kept us connected through 2 marriages, 3 countries, 4 states, college, internships, mission trips, jobs and so much life. I’m so grateful for friendships that can withstand time and distance. LOVE these girls! Sarah gave me this cute stack of handmade cards to thank me for driving up to see her.


So, that was my week! Like I said, busy, but all good stuff. Now I’m looking forward to next week because, drumroll please…….. Dancing With The Stars starts tomorrow night!!!!!! Duh du du du du du du, duh du du du du. That’s supposed to be the theme music.

Friday Favorites 9/5/14

It’s Friday!! I’m enjoying a cup of coffee and reviewing my Centergy material for class later this morning while I type this up.



We’re going camping at the coast later today, so after class I have a million errands to run and some packing to do. Before all that, though, the best way to start a Friday is with some Friday Favorites!

– Playing with Lucy

She is so energetic and play for her. If you make the slightest sudden move, she things you’re going to play with her. This morning, the light was hitting my phone and making shadows on the cabinets and she was going nuts! Those shadows were out to get her, I tell ya, and she simply had to catch them. She goes upstairs into the area we’re remodeling and brings down these little caps that cover electrical wires and expects us to throw them for her so she can fetch them.

Once she’s played herself out, she’s ready for a nice nap to gear up for the next round of okay.


– Dannon Light & Fit Caramel Macchiato

I shared a recipe in this post that called for Dannon Light & Fit Caramel Macchiato yogurt and I was blown away that such a thing even existed. I made it my mission to find it the next time I was at the grocery store and lo and behold, Safeway carries it! It’s some tasty stuff, let me tell ya! I’ve been eating it with some Kashi Go Lean sprinkled in it for breakfast.

I told y’all recently that I was going to a friend’s house to learn to apply my beautiful Jamberry nail stickers. I’ve had them for months but didn’t know how to apply them so that they were smooth. Once I learned the secret (a cuticle stick and a sandwich baggie – go figure!), I fell in love! It was so easy and I didn’t have to wait for nail polish to dry! My biggest pet peeve is spending time painting my nails, waiting hours for them to dry, then going to bed and waking up with pillow prints in my nails. No. Fun. So I’m thrilled that I can now have cute nails that are quick and look perfect for days, even weeks. Another plus, they don’t chip!

– Remodel Progress




Slowly, but surely things are coming together on our house. I love seeing big things take place because that makes the progress feel more real. We recently got cabinets build and installed for our entry way and bathrooms. Kitchen cabinets are still a work in progress, but they should be done soon as well. I simply can’t wait until they have drawers and countertops and I can store all my crap in them!! Just kidding…. Sort of.

Thursday Thoughts 9/4

Well, hello there! I can’t believe it’s Thursday already! It was kind of nice to have Monday off. I taught Cardio30 in the morning, but that doesn’t really feel like work, and I had the rest of the day to myself after that.

Since it’s Thursday, it’s time for a round of Thursday Thoughts. After all, Thursdays are for Thinking Out Loud!

– Can I just start by saying I’m sooooo not ready for fall? Please don’t throw things at me! So many people are getting excited about cooler weather, the trees changing colors and Pumpkin Spice lattes, but I’m just not there yet. Seriously, I was almost depressed when it rained a few days ago and when I left for work this morning my car was all fogged up and dewy. I don’t mind a little cooler weather (the 90s were getting a little too hot), but I’m not ready for rain and the general fall-ness. However, the cooler weather does give me a great excuse to get a hot coffee on my way to work! 🙂


– In honor of the first day of football (which I normally care nothing about), I created an account on ESPN to play Pigskin Pick Em. You heard (or read) right; I am actually getting slightly involved with football this year. A coworker invited me to play Pigskin Pick Em on a company team and I thought why not? Brandon will be immersed in the game all season due to the 2 fantasy football teams he’s on, so this’ll give us something to bond over. We’re even going to Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the Seahawks play the Packers (just the fact that I even know who’s playing tells me I’m so gonna win!)… I’m actually going more for the food, but sure I’ll accidentally see part of the game as I scan the table for wet naps and extra BBQ sauce.


– So I signed up for a race today. Yeah, kinda spur of the moment. I haven’t run since my half marathon in June. It’s only 5k, though, so I think I’m conditioned enough to bust it out with little problem. My friend, Erica, and I are going to run the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Portland. I’m looking forward to doing another race. I have the Color Vibe 5k coming up in October and there’s another run that month that I want to do with my dad, so this will be good prep.


– Brandon and I are going camping with some friends from work tomorrow and I’m pretty excited. Football, camping, who am I?? I don’t even know anymore. Honestly, I’m mostly excited about the s’mores.
