Saturday Shopping (Window Shopping, That Is)

Hey all! How’s the holiday weekend startin’ out for ya?? I worked today and Brandon and I don’t really have any plans for the long weekend, so it doesn’t feel like a holiday. My fam is in Sunriver running in the Sunriver Marathon For A Cause (super jealous over here!), and I’m cheering them on in spirit. Maybe we’ll plan an outing for Monday or something, who knows.

You know what I really want to do? Go shopping! I don’t need anything, but there are so many sales this weekend!!! BUT we’re trying to save money for the remodel and, ya know, bills (why was I so anxious to grow up again?), so I will resist. That doesn’t mean I can’t window shop, though! And, boy, I have been. There are some cuuuuuute workout clothes out there on the internet! Here, I’ll share my wishlist with you and maybe you can go treat yourself to some cute new clothes. Do it for me, please!

  • Blogilates is offering 20% off all purchases, even clearance, all weekend! All you need to do is use the code workitgirl20 at checkout. You can shop all her cute products at

I’ve been eyeing this beauty for a loooooong time. I love the saying on the back!

These “Sweat Happy” yoga pants would be great for teaching Group Centergy! They come in several colors with different sayings on the back.

  • You can get up to 50% off of everything at Old Navy through Monday.

I’ve been wanting a top like this one for awhile. I love the loose-fitting look, but that it’s fitted at the bottom. It looks like you could move around comfortably, but not have to worry about it riding up. There’s nothing worse than shifting into down dog in Group Centergy and having my shirt ride up to cover my face – showing my midsection to the entire class does not equal professional.

  • Nordstrom, who could forget Nordstrom?? Their sale on clearance items goes through September 7th.

These Zella capris are so pretty and feminine! I seriously don’t know when I’d wear them, though, because I wear black capris for work and teaching.

Black… of course…I can ALWAYS use new black yoga pants! I like these BP boot cut ones because they look like the waistband is comfy. And, with fall on it’s way, cozy weather is coming and yoga pants are a must!

  • Victoria’s Secret is offering 20% off a sports bra through Monday if you use the code 20bra.

This one is super cute!

  • Fabletics doesn’t have a sale going on that I could find, but their clothing is too cute to leave out!

I’ve been seeing these capris all over the blogosphere lately.  Heather at Housewife Glamour rocks the capris and Ashley at My Food N Fitness Diaries has the same pattern in shorts. SO CUTE! I really really want them but, again, where would I wear them? They’re so darn fun, they might just be worth buying anyway.

This Tempe sweatshirt looks soooooo cozy and since it’s overcast and rainy today, I could totally see myself rocking it with a pair of yoga pants! Maybe the BP yoga pants above!

*Sigh* Well, that didn’t quite cure my shopping craving.

What are your plans for the long weekend?

Planning to take advantage of any great sales? If you do, tell me what you bought so I can live vicariously through you!

Thursday Thoughts 8/28

It’s Friday-eve!!! AND it’s my brother’s birthday!!! Happy birthday, Brice!!

I was thinking about posting today because it’s been a few days since my last post, but I could just not think of anything interesting to say. While browsing other blogs for inspiration I came across this link up on Running With Spoons called “Thursdays Are For Thinking Out Loud.” Perfect! Now I can say all my uninteresting things and y’all have to listen to them because they have an official title. :p

So, today I’m “thinking out loud” courtesy of Running With Spoons.

– I’m pretty excited because tonight I’m going to my friend, Erica’s, house to learn how to apply my Jamberry nail stickers. I know, it doesn’t take much to get me excited. I got the stickers for my birthday in April, but I was horrible at putting them on – they weren’t smooth at all! Erica’s sister sells Jamberry products, so she’s going to show me how to apply the stickers.

– Ever since Saturday, I can’t stop thinking about the Barre3 In The Park workout I went to. I loved the class and really want to try it again! The feel is very similar to Group Centergy which is no secret that I LOVE! I’ve been thinking that maybe I want to get certified to teach something else along those lines – like Pilates or yoga. Pilates would be my first choice, but the training is soooooo expensive and we just don’t have a demand for it at the club I work at. Those styles of workouts just energize me and when I’m teaching or taking a Centergy class, I just feel at home, like I’m in my sweet spot, ya know? Fortunately, I’ve been subbing a lot this month, so I’ve been getting my fix…..

And, wow, that was long. Moving on.

– This kitten: I just love her so much!

My mom mentioned, the other day, that I have wayyyy to many pictures of her on my Instagram and I was like, “No, I totally don’t have that many pics of her.” Then I scrolled through my Instagram feed and, sure enough, I have too many photos of my cat. I need to have kids or something.

– I have been eating like crap this week. Currently, this is what I’m snacking on:

Yep, JIF and animal crackers. I failed to meal prep this week and have 0 groceries, so I’ve been munching on junk and, therefore, generally feeling like junk. Tomorrow, I’m going grocery shopping annnnnnnd probably cooking (ugh, so not my favorite thing). I just need to remind myself that it’s worth it because I feel so much lighter and more energetic when I eat good food!

– My dad’s running in the Sunriver Marathon For A Cause half marathon on Saturday and I so wish I could be there!! Sadly, I have to work so I’ll just cheer him on from here. Gooooooo Daddy!!!

What are your thoughts this Thursday?

Any plans for the 3 day weekend? I teach tomorrow, work Saturday and teach again on Monday, so I don’t really feel like it’s a long weekend. Enjoy some vacationing or camping for me!!

Anyone running in a race this weekend?

Barre3 In The Park And A Friend Date

Happy Sunday! I hope everyone is having a relaxing day before the start of the new week. We started the day with church, then went to lunch with my parents and brother. My mama gave me this today…

Yes, I am spoiled. I mentioned in my Friday Favorite post that I love this stuff and was, sadly, out so my mom went out and bought me (and Brandon, I suppose) two jars and some animal cookies to dip in them! Thanks mom!

I also mentioned in my last post that I was super excited to go to an event yesterday called Barre3 in the Park, put on by Barre3 Portland to celebrate their 6 year anniversary. I wasn’t entirely sure what a barre workout consisted of, but after experiencing the Barre3 class yesterday and checking out their website, I have a much better idea. Here’s what I learned! Barre3 incorporates barre, yoga and Pilates movements to build long, lean, strong muscles. The moves are set to music and use isometric holds and small, 1-inch pulsing movements to strengthen muscles. You can learn more about the Barre3 workout on their website.

I woke up early Saturday morning to pick up Erica for our friend date and to get up to Portland with enough time to find the park the event was at (I’m notorious for getting lost, especially in Portland. Once, on my way to the airport to pick up a friend, I ended up in Washington.) and to find parking. We, of course, had to stop at Starbucks for coffee first. Photo courtesy of Erica.

We found the park and only had to turn around once and only went down one one-way street the wrong way (whoops). The event was at The Fields Park in the Pearl District and it was gorgeous!

It was pretty dang warm, but I was so excited and the park was so beautiful that I didn’t really notice. Erica and I checked in, got our swag bags, then found a nice spot to put our mats before checking out the tents and vendors.

KIND Bars, Athleta, Vita Coco, and Greenleaf Juicing Company all made an appearance.

At the Athleta tent, we got to pick a gift from their swag bag for following them on Twitter. I got this adorable yoga mat bag by Prana.

I love the colors and it’s so roomy and soft! It even has a big pocket on the front. I’ve been wanting a yoga mat bag for awhile so I was pretty stoked. Thanks, Athleta!

They also gave us a $10 gift card to use at their store, good for that day only. After the event, E and I went to their downtown location and did some shopping. I wanted to buy the whole store! They have such fun clothes! I limited myself to 1 item for Brandon and our bank account’s sake.

This adorable workout tank is comfy and such a fun color! I also love the crisscrossed straps on the back. It made me want to go workout all over again! You can get the same one here. I really liked this one too but, like I said, I had a self-imposed limit of one.

Okay, back to the Barre3 event (clothes can be so distracting, can’t they?). We walked around checking out the Vita Coco, KIND Bar and green juice tents and grabbing some snacks. There was also a spot to get a quick massage. You can bet we were all over that!

After the massage, it was about time for the event to start, so we went back to our mats to get ready and snap a few pics cuz we’re cool like that.

Meet Erica, new spokesmodel for Vita Coco!

It was amazing how many people were there! Everyone found their mats as Sadie, the founder of Barre3, began to welcome us. As the class started, I noticed that it had a very similar feel to Group Centergy and I knew I was going to love it. We started with a big inhale as we raised our arms and, as everyone moved in sync, Sadie clearly choked up. It was so sweet. I love mass workouts like this because it’s so cool to see everyone move together. There was the most adorable little girl, probably a year or two old, on a mat behind me going through all the moves and it was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen!! I wanted to take a pic but figured it’s probably frowned upon to take pictures of other people’s kids without their permission (hashtagcreeper).

Photo cred goes to Erica because my panorama shots always look like a drunk bear tried to take them.

I loved the workout! It lasted about and hour and I was thoroughly covered in sweat when I was done. The movements went quickly, so it got the heart rate up and the holds and pulses killed my muscles. I was definitely feeling my glutes, calves, quads and core. Our swag bag came with a gift card for one free Barre3 class at the Portland studio and Erica and I plan to make another date to try out a real class one of these days. I feel like this is a workout I’d love to do consistently if it were offered closer to home.

Overall, the event was amazingly well organized (they were even able to sweet talk the construction workers a few blocks away to take a break while we did class, so the construction noise didn’t compete with the event) and super fun! I’m hoping they do another Barre3 in the Park for their anniversary next year because I’ll totally come! I’m also really looking forward to trying a class in the studio one of these days. It was great to spend a day with my bestie, having girl time, being active, shopping and getting some freebies – definitely the highlight of my weekend!

Have you done a barre workout or taken a Barre3 class before?

What was the highlight of your weekend?

Friday Favorites 8/22

Happy Friday, everyone!!

Man, I was ready for Friday this week. I don’t know why, I mean, it was a good week. I think I’m just super excited for tomorrow, so that made the week drag. Why am I excited for tomorrow, you ask? Because my friend, Erica and I are going to a Barre workout in the park in Portland! Barre3, a studio in Portland, is celebrating their 6 year anniversary with a Barre3 In The Park event. I’ve been wanting to try a barre workout for awhile now, but our gym doesn’t offer it so I haven’t had a chance. To be honest, I’m not entirely sure what barre is, but I think it has a Pilates-esque feel with a focus on flexibility, strength and balance. It just seems like it would be something I’d like. 🙂 I’ll have a more complete and accurate description after I attend the event.

If you’re in the Portland area, you should come! It’s free! 🙂 Their Facebook page has all the details.

Now, for one of the reasons I look forward to Fridays (besides the fact that it’s Friday, duh), this week’s edition of Friday Favorites!! As always, thanks to the lovely Heather over at Housewife Glamour for the linkup!!

JIF Salted Caramel Hazelnut Spread

My mom bought me a jar of this spread because she thought I might like it (can’t imagine why). JIF + chocolate = Whit’s happy place. This stuff is delicious! Seriously, I’ve been guilty of eating it by the spoonfuls all week, and I’ve even caught Brandon with a spoon in it a time or ten. It was really yummy on toast and I’d like to try it on pancakes too, but I’m all out. (Mom, are you reading this? I need a refill! … Totally kidding.)

PGroup Workouts

It’s no secret that I love group exercise. I wouldn’t teach it if I didn’t. I love it because it’s so much more fun and motivating to workout with other people. I’m way less likely to quit if there are others in the room and I love that we can push one another and feed off of each other’s energy. This week at work, we hosted an group workout event. It was a fun run/obstacle course-like event. We started with a dunk tank. For each time we missed dunking the person in the tank, we had to do a burpee. Then we ran uphill 2 miles through a neighborhood to another challenge where we had to roll dice to see how many weighted squats we had to do. We ended at a local restaurant and bar where we had to do keg presses with empty beer kegs, then walking lunges while holding a slosh pipe. Phew! After that, we were rewarded with food and beer! It was cool to see our gym and the local restaurant come together to put on an active event with healthy food (minus the beer). The photo is of me and my team doing the event as part of a fitness challenge we have at the gym.

I have a water bottle that says “fitness” in big letters in the front. This week, one of my sneaky coworkers decided to change the “fitness” to “fatness.” The sad part is that I didn’t even notice until the next day!

Chocolate Shop Chocolate Sparkling Wine

Brandon brought this home the other day and, I gotta say, I was a little hesitant. I’m not a huge red wine fan and I’ve had chocolate wines before that aren’t all they’re cracked up to be. This stuff, though, was fantastic!!! We poured ourselves each a glass and then took the rest over to our neighbor’s house one night. We shared it with them while we all watched some satellites. Our neighbor has an app that tracks satellites in the sky and they were supposed to be bright that night. I’m not much of a star (or satellite) gazer, but it was nice to sit out and enjoy the evening, wine and good company.

Well, those are my faves from the week! Your turn!

Tell me some of your favorite things about your week!

What are you looking forward to this weekend?

Has anyone done a barre workout?

Centergy And A Smoothie

It’s my Friday!! … Oh, sorry. Maybe I shouldn’t brag about that. Hope y’all have an awesome Friday tomorrow! 🙂

I’ve been teaching a lot of Group Centergy this week because we’ve needed substitute instructors pretty badly lately. We don’t have a ton of instructors on our Centergy team, so I subbed out my Cardio30 classes to cover some Centergy classes. I’ve enjoyed teaching Centergy, but I’ve missed my Cardio30 class. I feel bad leaving my participants for a week. I think I’ll bring them a treat on Monday!

Lucy loves to help me practice Centergy.

After class yesterday, I came home and tried a new protein smoothie recipe. I’ve mentioned before, I love Drink Click protein powder and they have some yummy recipes on their website. The CLICK’n Double Caramel Protein Smoothie looked particularly tasty, so I made that yesterday.

You really should check out the picture on the Drink Click website because their photo looks wayyyy better than mine. The recipe can be found here. I tried of drizzle dulce de leche on top to make it pretty, but it just sunk.

I made a few tweaks to the recipe. The original recipe calls for almond milk and I used soy because that’s what I had on hand. It also calls for Dannon Greek yogurt in caramel macchiato flavor, which I didn’t have (but I WOULD had I known it existed!! Put it on my grocery list!), so I used vanilla Greek yogurt and a scoop of dulce de leche that a friend from Uruguay gave me. It reminded me of a blended caramel latte, but healthier! I’m totally going to make it when I’m craving a blended latte.

Tonight, I’m going to take a cardio class at the gym with a friend so I don’t die when I teach Cardio30 again on Monday.

I’m linking up with Katie for her Healthy Habits linkup today. She has some great tips for getting out of a funk! Anybody else fall into a funk once and awhile and just don’t know why? No? Just me? Well, just in case you ever do, check out Katie’s post! 🙂

How’s your week been?

Having A Cup Of Java With Juli!

Happy Monday!!
I love my weekends, but there are a few things I really look forward to when a new week rolls around: teaching Cardio30 on Monday morning and a new Java with Juli podcast.

If you’ve not heard of Java with Juli, it’s a podcast that discusses women’s questions about marriage and relationships from a biblical perspective. Dr. Juli Slattery and author, Linda Dillow, chat openly about the everything from dealing with in-laws to sex in marriage, all from a Bible-based, God-honoring perspective. They actually record the podcast in a coffee shop in Colorado, so you can hear coffee beans being ground, milk steaming and the tinkling of coffee cups hitting the table after someone takes a sip. It’s like you’re actually sitting down with Juli and Linda in a coffee shop having a genuine discussion about marriage and relationships. I usually listen to it in the car, but when I have time, I love to brew my own cuppa joe and sit down to enjoy some girl talk.

I love this podcast especially because Juli and Linda aren’t afraid to touch the tough topics that church and your typical women’s Bible study address. I grew up going to church and a Christian school, so I’ve heard the basics: marriage is for life, don’t have sex until you’re married, wives are to respect their husbands and husbands are to love their wives, two become one, but there’s not a lot of real talk about intimacy in marriage. Is it okay to enjoy sex? What if you don’t? What if one or both of you had sex before marriage, can your sexual life be redeemed? What if he struggles with pornography? What if you think lustful thoughts about Ryan Gosling? I feel like these kinds of questions generally aren’t approached in Christian circles and if we want answers, we have to go to Cosmo magazine or watch chick flicks to get them. Java with Juli approaches these tough questions tactfully and Biblically and I love listening to their candid conversations and “bold truths,” as their slogan says.

This week’s podcast in entitled “When The Honeymoon Is Over” and it discusses what to do when marriage doesn’t meet your expectations.

Did you know that 20% of marriages end in the first 5 years? 20%! That’s a large percentage for a relatively short time of marriage and it’s extremely sad that so many couples are unhappy with marriage so soon after getting married. As a relatively newly married lady myself (we’re almost 3 years in), I can attest that marriage isn’t always what I thought it’d be. Sometimes it’s hard, oftentimes it’s waaaaay different than I envisioned, and every day I realize I’m more selfish than I ever knew. Does that mean I married the wrong man? Did I make a mistake? Juli, Linda and Comminications Coordinator, Hannah do an excellent job of hashing out how to respond when marriage is different than you anticipated. I encourage you to take a listen. You can find today’s podcast here

And if you love Java with Juli, which I think you will, there are dozens more great podcasts to listen to here or, you can do what I do and add Java with Juli to your podcast app on your iPhone and get them loaded directly to your phone each Monday! Java with Juli is a part of Authentic Intimacy, a ministry designed to bring God’s truth into the emotional, physical and spiritual aspects of intimacy. I’ve mentioned the ministry once before in this post. The Authentic Intimacy website is a great resource for marriage advice, encouragement and inspiration. Check it out here!

Hope you all have a fantastic week!

Have you heard of Java with Juli or Authentic Intimacy?

What are you looking forward to this week?

Friday Favorites 8/15/14

Happy Friday!! And a happy birthday to my bro-in-law today!

I’m currently spending my Friday waiting for my tires to be rotated, so I figured what better way to pass the time than reminiscing on my faves from the week?? I’m linking up with Heather over at Housewife Glamour for her Friday Favorites link up.

And there’s quite a bit of healthy in my faves this week, so I’m linking up with Katie’s Healthy Habits link up too!

Panera’s Strawberry Poppyseed Chicken Salad

I went out to lunch with my grandma today (hi grandma!!) and got this amazing salad with a side of soup. It’s seriously so good! Strawberries, blueberries, mandarin oranges, pineapple, mmmm… Tastes like summer!! We had something similar on our nutrition plan at work a few weeks ago with a homemade clean poppyseed dressing. Nom nom. I can’t decide which I like better. At least now I know when I go out to eat there’s a delicious healthy option to choose.

Group Power

I’ve been taking Group Power again and love it! I used to take it twice a week, but then my work schedule changed and now the only class that fits in my schedule is Friday mornings. I love my Cardio30 and Centergy, but have been wanting to add back a strength training option. Group Power, I’ve missed you!

I love KIND bars and recently found this variation. They’re so tasty and, if you get them at Wal Mart instead of the health food store, they’re not too expensive. I like to keep one in my purse or desk in case I ever need a snack.

Fresh Flowers

Brandon brought me these beauties for no reason at all. They make me smile every time I see them on my kitchen table. Lucy loves them too!! Well, she loves to eat them.

What about you? What are some of your favorites from this week?

Any fun weekend plans? We’re going out to celebrate my bro-in-law’s birthday tonight then we have a baby shower on Sunday.
