Gingerbread Biscotti

Today, I am very much in a holiday mood. The morning started out brisk and cold, covered in fog and crunchy orange leaves. I bundled up in a scarf and knit hat and headed to the mall to do some Christmas shopping. Unfortunately, I have been having a really hard time finding gifts for my loved ones this year, and I left the mall empty-handed. Since the Christmas shopping failed, I decided to do some Christmas baking to satisfy my holiday cravings. When I got home from the mall, I poured over my holiday baking recipes trying to decide what to bake. I finally decided on Gingerbread Biscotti. I chose this recipe for a few reasons: my dad, who lives out of town, loves biscotti and he’s coming home for the weekend and I am a big fan of anything that pairs well with coffee, so biscotti fit the bill. I have never made biscotti before and it was a little more difficult than I thought it would be. After a few revisions and improvisations (they took longer in the oven that the recipe called for and some only faintly resemble the traditional biscotti shape), they were finally done. Mmm! They were sooooo good! The whole process took quite awhile and made a giant mess, so I don’t know that I’ll be baking biscotti regularly, but they were well worth the effort for an afternoon holiday treat!

Blessings Bucket

I finished my Thanksgiving creation for The CSI Project this afternoon. I had so much fun wandering the aisles of the craft store for inspiration! Finally, I came up with an idea for my project – the blessings bucket. The festive fall bucket will sit on our dining room table throughout the month of Novemeber waiting to catch our blessings. When any person in our house thinks of something they are thankful for or a blessing they have been given, they can write it on a slip of paper and put it into the bucket. On Thanksgiving, our family will empty the bucket and read all of the things we are thankful for. Hopefully, by Thanksgiving Day our bucket will be overflowing with blessings!

Thanksgiving Creations

I can’t believe it’s already November! The year has flown! I’m not complaining, though; I love fall and the holiday season. I was reading The Inspired Room this morning and discovered another site called The CSI Project. CSI stands for “Create Something Inspiring.” I’m an arts and crafts kinda girl and the site’s title struck a creative chord in me. The CSI Project posts weekly creative challenges with a different theme for each week. This week’s theme is Thanksgiving. Reading about the challenge and looking through the pictures from previous challenge winners made me want to run to the craft store immediately.  Sadly, I work today so that’s not a possibility. Tomorrow is my day off, though, so I think I found the perfect way to spend it – browsing the aisles of the craft store for inspiration, then coming home to create something Thanksgiving-inspired! If anyone cares to join me in this challenge, I’ve posted the link below. I can’t wait to get started!
